Normally I wouldn’t post about non-development related topics but I can’t develop if I don’t have music.

After installing the December 2010 firmware and HTC software updates on my HTC EVO (Sprint) I could no longer stream from ShoutCast stations via Winamp. The audio was broken and sounded like it wouldn’t buffer. I found this post here that has others who experienced the same problem.

The problem is that the update changed the proxy server so of course when streaming through a proxy, you’re going to have problems. Here is the fix:

  1. Dial ##3282#
  2. Choose Edit Mode
  3. Enter MSL (Call Sprint to get this if you don’t have it already)
  4. Choose Advanced
  5. Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
  6. Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0

The instructions say to change the proxy port, but some have reported doing so will negatively affect other apps. I only changed the proxy address and it worked just fine for me. I suggest leaving it alone.

Edit: I could not browse web pages using built in browser or Opera until I set the proxy port to 0.

Notice: I’m only re-posting what helped me. If you break your phone, that’s your problem.
